Reflecting on Our Third Year

CEO Karen Bexley reflects on our third year at Bexley Beaumont:

As we approach the close of 2022, our uncompromising approach to quality and our focus on team culture remains as strong as the day we launched Bexley Beaumont.

The year got off to a great start with the opening of our London office in January. As well as having a business model that allows partners to work anytime, anyhow, and anywhere, we also understand the importance for in-person collaboration. Our opening in London allows more opportunities for the Team to come together with each other and their clients.

This year saw the Team achieving well-deserved recognition with Bexley Beaumont winning the ‘Business Growth’ category at the Modern Law Awards and being shortlisted for the Lawyer Awards, the Greater Manchester Business Awards, the SME National Business Awards, and the Growing Business Awards. We are delighted to end the year with the announcement that Bexley Beaumont has been shortlisted in two categories at the Legal 500 Northern Powerhouse Awards including Boutique Law Firm of the Year 2023.

Bexley Beaumont’s mantra is to “Grow the Team, Keep the Culture”. This year it’ been a privilege to welcome 12 partners. We have also strengthened the Bexley Beaumont offering with two associates in real estate and employment. We have broadened our expertise across multiple practice areas ensuring we continue to provide clients with multidisciplinary expertise of the highest quality.

We continue to try and help those at the very start of their careers and provide early insights into the legal world. We are very pleased to have had our first trainee, Leri Mowatt-Martin and we are looking forward to our second trainee, Harry Jenkinson, getting started in January. We have enjoyed hosting work experience placements across the year and look forward to continuing to support those at the start of their careers.

Bexley Beaumont is of the belief that the interrelation of economic, environmental, and social factors is material to sustainable, long-term value creation and that focus on these areas can contribute to a brighter future. We remained on track with our plans to launch ESG and Climate Action in 2022.

Our ESG policy provides a framework of environmental, social, and corporate governance standards against which we measure our performance and hold ourselves accountable. Our Corporate Governance Gantt Chart measures our progress, while the Gantt Chart also plans for how the company and board could or should look in the coming years, providing a roadmap for our growth and helping us focus on each next step.

The Climate Action policy has been drafted with a focus on education, sustainable business, supporting good causes and external accountability, with initiatives and information shared on the company’s ‘Econet’. We share ideas and collaborate with some of the country’s largest law firms via the Legal Sustainability Alliance as well as working with local charities such as Sow the City and we have big ideas for how to further decarbonise our practice and have a positive environmental impact.

We have gone back to the drawing board with our CSR plan. Our aim is to develop a sustainable initiative which will grow as Bexley Beaumont grows. We have an opportunity to think again about where we can have the most long-term positive impact.

Our Good Intentions have continued throughout 2022, with the Team participating in several charity events - a fitness challenge (where we collectively moved a whopping 1,113.68 kilometres), the Bexley Beaumont Bake Off, volunteering days at Sow the City and the Together Trust, the NSPCC Walk for Children and more!

We have hosted several firm get-togethers throughout the country including the annual summer walk where we were joined by some of the Team’s families too. We have been fortunate to have been joined by brilliant guest speakers throughout the year. Our warmest thanks go to each of our speakers who have generously given their time to support Bexley Beaumont. Informative, inspirational and engaging sessions – it was a great opportunity for the Team to hear from leaders across a variety of sectors.

We are looking forward to continuing to pursue our growth plans in 2023 whilst upholding our vision and values and we will also embed the ESG and Climate Action frameworks into the day-to-day operations.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported Bexley Beaumont this year – a fabulous team effort!
